Russian media shed light on US President Joe Biden's accusations of “Facebook” being responsible for some deaths from the Coronavirus.

The newspaper “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” explained in an article by journalist Maxim Makaryshev that Facebook objected on July 17, 2021, to Biden's statements for the second time in recent days, this indicates that the company's work is more effective than the efforts of the US administration in promoting vaccines against Corona.

As part of this, Biden stated on July 15, 2021, that the social media giant is “killing people” with misinformation.

The White House chief added, “The only epidemic we are facing is infection among the unvaccinated, it's the (social media) who are killing people”.

Mercilessly

While the writer pointed out that “Facebook denied the criticism, saying: Thanks to its sources, two billion people have known the scientific data that vaccination works with, more than 3.3 million Americans have used its tool to choose the type of vaccine”.

A day later, Facebook said its data collected through “Carnegie Mellon University” and the “University of Maryland” formed the basis for a platform that appeared to “outperform the Biden administration in promoting the adoption of the vaccine”.

Facebook's vice president, Jay Rosen, said: “The data shows that 85% of Facebook users in the USA have been vaccinated or want to be vaccinated against the Coronavirus”.

President Biden has set a goal of vaccinating 70% of Americans by July 4, 2021.

Makaryshev commented that currently, the vaccination rate of American citizens is 67%.

Critics noted that conservative and far-right media activities are “often associated with reluctance about vaccines”.

“Fox News” has consistently ranked number one on Facebook; it ranked first on July 16, 2021, according to the New York Times.

Analysts at “Media Matters for America” concluded that much of the Fox News platform broadcast content during June and July 2021 mercilessly undermined the White House's vaccine efforts.

Misinformation

The “DELTA” variant of the Coronavirus is the cause of more than half of the new cases in the USA, US infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, said: “More than 99% of the people who died from the Corona virus in the USA in June were not vaccinated”.

This is due to the fact that “the number of infections in the USA has doubled in recent days, and the vaccine is slowing down, representatives of the Biden administration attacked misinformation in social networks and the media”.

According to the Russian “360” channel, the company's press secretary, Danny Leifer, in an interview with “ABC News” said: “Facebook rejected Biden's claim that social media was responsible for deaths from Corona”.

According to Leifer, “Such accusations are unfounded, on the contrary, it is Facebook that talks a lot about vaccines, this helps people be more responsible for their health”.

He continued, “It will not distract us from accusations that are not supported by facts, there is another fact: more than two billion people have received reliable information about COVID-19 and vaccines on Facebook, it's more than anywhere else on the Internet”.

Leifer cited statistics from more than 3 million Americans who searched for vaccine data on Facebook. You can find out where the vaccination points are, and what documents are required during the examination, he added: “Facebook is helping to save lives this time”.

According to the Russian “InterFX” website since February 2021, the White House is asking for help from Facebook and other social media to stop the spread of misinformation, like the myth that vaccines can cause infertility.

Also, to stop the rumor of aggravating the situation due to the spread of the DELTA strain, distrust of the vaccine among young people, and public opinion polls that show most unvaccinated people believe vaccine myths.

With the increase in cases of coronavirus, slowing vaccination rates in the USA, the White House launched a battle against misinformation.

US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy noted that misinformation about the vaccine “poses a threat to public health”.
