"Islam is in retreat... Banning religious education for minors means that Muslim youths do not acquire the knowledge they should acquire ... The next generation will accept the Chinese mentality, and they will still be called Uyghurs, but their mentality and values will vanish."

This warning came from Ali Akbar Domullah, one of the Muslims fleeing the persecution of the Chinese government of Xinjiang against the Uyghur minority, describing how great is the "tragedy" that millions of Muslims are experiencing in the East Turkestan (Xinjiang) region.

The Uyghurs are the largest ethnic minority in Xinjiang (Xinjiang), and they are a Muslim-majority group with 10 million citizens out of the region's 25 million people.

This Muslim minority bore the brunt of the government crackdown led by the ruling Communist Party, as it seeks to restrict them and "crush" their Islamic beliefs through plans that have already been implemented.

"Chineseization" of Islam

The British newspaper, The Independent, targeted a new chapter in the suffering of Uighur Muslims, through a report issued on May 7, 2021, in which it clarified the measures taken by the Chinese government of Xinjiang against millions of Muslims in the region.

"Under the control of official policies, the future of Islam is precarious in Xinjiang, a rugged region of rocky, snow-capped mountains and arid deserts bordering Central Asia," it said.

And she stressed that "dozens of mosques have been demolished, and the number of worshipers is declining, according to the testimonies of local residents."

The newspaper explained that, "through the strict laws imposed on Chinese Muslims regarding their faith, children only know who is the great creator, but they cannot be given detailed religious knowledge ... until after they reach the age of 18, when they can receive religious education according to their will."

While the British newspaper quoted the imam of the "Eid Kah" mosque, Muhammad Jumah, as saying: "A decade ago, between 4,000 to 5,000 people attended Friday prayers in the mosque in the city of Kashgar, located on the historic Silk Road, but now only 800 To 900 worshipers attend prayers. "  The most prominent point mentioned in the "Independent" report, is that Beijing prepares an "army of Muslim imams according to its srategy," and stated that "after the age of 18, those who wish to study religion are selected and brought to the state-sponsored Institute of Islamic Studies, on a newly built university campus. On the outskirts of Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang. "

And it added, "Hundreds of them are training to become imams according to a curriculum authored by the Chinese government, and they study a textbook with sections such as (patriotism is part of faith), and (Be a Muslim who loves the motherland and abides by the constitution, national laws and regulations)."

The newspaper commented: "They continued to prescribe Islam, and direct Islam to adapt to the Chinese socialist society."

For his part, the Australian Institute for Strategic Policies confirmed, according to its report issued in 2019, that “mosques were demolished and damaged, in a deliberate destruction of Uighur culture and Islamic culture in China,” and that they had already “identified 170 destroyed mosques in Xinjiang through satellite images.” .

The Chinese government's violation of the "Islamic faith" reached the highest level, when the Turkish newspaper "Daily Sabah" revealed, on December 25, 2019, that "China intends to rewrite the Qur’an to reflect (socialist values) at a time when the country is launching a repression campaign of Uyghur Muslims. "

The newspaper said: "Any content that contradicts the beliefs of the Communist Party will be changed, and the censorship will amend all paragraphs that don't rely on the principles of the party and will re-translate them."

it pointed out that "the party called for an evaluation of the current traditional religious beliefs that are inconsistent with   the evolution of the era according to the vision of the Chinese government."

It is noteworthy that since 2017, the Chinese government has put nearly a million and a half prisoners of Uighurs and other ethnicities in "Xinjiang" camps, and then called these harsh campsthat are similar to "apartheid" (apartheid), the name of vocational education and training centers, for the purpose of their rehabilitation and omit their beliefs, and strengthen the identity of the Communist Party in them.

Beijing adopts a policy of spreading state atheism, as it launched accelerated anti-religious campaigns , and targeted Muslims to implement its policy, according to observers.

Kidnapping Children

In 2018, the Committee for "State Ethnic Affairs and State Administration of Religious Affairs" was placed under the authority of the Ministry of the United Action Front, which now oversees religious and ethnic issues in China, and which fully adopts the administration of Xinjiang camps, under the supervision of the Secretary-General of the Xi Jinping party . "

In September 2018, the American Associated Press revealed, "The Chinese authorities forced many Uighur Muslims to leave their children, while the government kept these children in various institutes and schools known as boarding schools."

She pointed out that "Uyghur children detained in boarding schools were forced to learn Mandarin Chinese and were prevented from fully practicing their religion."

On September 30, 2017, the British (BBC) network reported, "The Chinese authorities have ordered the Uighurs to hand over all Korans, prayer carpets and every thing that belongs to religion, otherwise they will face penalties."

it added, "The government has implemented a set of strict measures, including obligating state employees in public places to prevent women who completely cover their bodies, including their faces, from entering these places, and to inform the police for immediate arrest and also men with  Beards as a kind of religious manifestation. "

In July 2019, the 22 member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council, most notably Britain, Germany, France and Sweden, signed a critical  letter of China's treatment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang and other minorities, and called  for a stop to this policy of mass detention and racism against them.

Another Andalusia

A member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, the preacher Islam Magdy, said, "What is happening to the Uyghur Muslims is a repetition of the tragedy of Andalusia, in which Islam and Muslims have been afflicted, and they left their lands without return, after they were subjected to displacement and ethnic cleansing through the Inquisition, and those who remained were forced to change their religion and beliefs, and they were known throughout history as the Moors, and the next generations did not know Islam.

He added in an interview with "Al Estiklal" that "this is precisely what is happening in East Turkestan, with Uighur Muslims, who are subjected to ethnic cleansing and organized extermination by the brutal Chinese authorities, which seek to erase their beliefs and completely dissolve them into Chinese socialism and communism, so that they do not have anything from Islam, not even names.

The preacher Magdy asserted that "Muslims there, are subjected to racial segregation in concentration camps, and they are forced to break their fast in Ramadan and eat pork - as the testimonies of those fleeing the camps - and their mosques are demolished, and their Quran is distorted, and they are completely away from studying what is related to their religion, and this is done in front of the whole world. "

He continued: "Unfortunately, neither the Islamic world nor the Muslim governments have acted as they should in this regard, and great pressure should have occurred on China, as happened with France, and boycotting Chinese products is a must ."

The preacher Magdy stressed "the necessity of mobilizing Islamic public opinion to support the vulnerable Uyghur Muslims, so that this region will not witness another tragedy, and after years we won't be surprised that there is no longer Islam, because the Sunnah of God in His creation requires pushing and defeating, and whoever is not ready, is subject to those Sunnahs by annihilation."
