Annoys America; The Russian Drel Glide Bomb is the Super Weapon of the Future

The Russian media highlighted the new super-powerful local weapon under the name “Drel Glide”, and the American position on this weapon, because of its superior capabilities in terms of technology and the features that distinguish it in terms of efficiency and cost.

The American “Lenty.ru” magazine said that the “Drel Glide” bomb could become Russia's new super-weapon; it is ideal when used against a moving enemy.

It added, “This is a GLONASS-controlled cluster glide bomb, it weighs more than 500 kg, and has a diameter of 30 to 50 km.”

Invisible Weapon

For its part, the American “National Interest” magazine stated that each Glide Drel contains 15 specially guided combat missiles, with an identification system (friend or enemy), as well as electronic countermeasures, it noted the efficiency of this Russian weapon compared with missile weapons.

In May 2021, Deputy Prime Minister “Yury Borisov” announced that the Russian army would receive training on the Drel Glide weapon during 2021.

In October 2018, General Manager “Vladimir Lipin” told “Takhmash” that the Drel Glide system identifies the target and tries not to lose it.

“Lenty.ru” noted that the Russian “Drel Glide” Cluster Bomb (PBK-500U SPBE-K), was introduced in 2015.

And at the beginning of 2016, it underwent tests on the basis of proving its efficiency, as the bomb is able to glide without entering the active air defense zone, and equipped with controllable elements, which is set to the final path of its movement, ensuring the destruction of the specified targets.

While the American magazine “National Interest” feared the success of the new Russian ammunition.

According to the Russian newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, the bomb also features a built-in electronic countermeasures system, it prevents the enemy from shooting towards it, and disrupts its signals, that's why they are called “invisible.”

High Combat Effectiveness

In this regard, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov (overseeing the government's military-industrial complex) said recently: “Our army will receive new training for the Drel Glide in 2021, test results confirming its high combat effectiveness.

“Komsomolskaya Pravda” added that from technical terms, the “Drel Glide” weapon is called “PBK-500U” with “SPBE-K”, where this abbreviation is deciphered as “Universal sliding cluster bomb weighing 500 kg."

It noted that the bomb is capable of operating around the clock in all weather conditions, it hits the target with high accuracy, from the maximum height of the bombardment, which is 14 km, and the minimum is 100 meters.

And if the “GLONASS” signal is scrambled, the Drel Glide can use laser and television guidance, the bomb also applies the “shoot-forget” principle, which relieves the operator in charge (navigator) of the need to accompany the target until it is hit.

For comparison, the deviation of a similar American bomb from the target does not exceed 10-15 meters, as for the “Drel Glide” - it is from 3 to 5 meters.

The cost of an American bomb is $100,000, and it's about 5 times cheaper than Russian bomb, that is why American experts say that the Air Force's glide grenades are “as valuable as gold."

“Komsomolskaya Pravda” described the emergence of the “Drel Glide” as an impressive achievement, and a powerful addition to the Russian Air Force, it will also not only solve the problem of reducing the cost of high-precision ammunition, it will also greatly enhance the combat ability of the flight.

In the future, Russia will have bombs capable of moving away from the carrier at a much greater distance, where the “Drel Glide” will allow a very large savings in weapons, at the same time, its effectiveness is greatly increased.
